About The Elk Ranch

Location:

The Elk Ranch is located in Northwest Colorado in Unit 12 and is appox. 3,000 acres of private land. The ranch sets between Craig and Meeker, Colorado. And is only one hour west of Steamboat Springs. It is also less than 30 miles from the Flat Top Wilderness area, which is home to the largest herd of elk in the state.

Terrain:
The terrain is covered with sage, thick patches of oak brush and aspen groves. The Elk Ranch is surrounded by private land on all sides. We have large alfalfa fields on the lower elevations of the ranch. The ranch ranges from 6500 ft to 8000 ft in elevation.

Lodge:
Our main lodge is over 4,000 sq ft and is perfect for entertaining our guests. We have a large fireplace that is perfect for setting around and talking about the days hunts. We have a big screen TV with Dish Network satellite and WIFI. Next to the main lodge is our heated barn with full size walk in cooler.

Lower Cabin: The lower cabin is located next to the Main Lodge is over 1500 sq ft and has two full bathrooms. It also has a small kitchen and frig.

DIY High Country Deluxe Drop Camps:

GET AWAY FROM THE CROWDS...Let us take you in by horseback to a remote Deluxe Wilderness Tent Camp in the Heart of the Colorado Rockies.

Location:

White River National Forest in Unit 24 near Meeker Colorado.  We are east of Meeker.  Our camps are anywhere frorm 3 miles to 7 miles from the trailhead.

Horse Ride:

We horseback you into an established tent camp...from there you hunt on foot.  The horse ride in our area is vey easy....not rough terrian.  Anyone can make this ride.  Basically your horse will just follow the horse in front of it.

Hunting Area:

We will show you the best areas to hunt from each camp.  Once in camp we will give each hunter a map of the area.  The best areas to hunt will be marked for you.  Our goal is to get you on elk the first day of your hunt.  Most outfitters just drop you off and tell you to go hunt...it can take you several days to find where the elk are and by then half your hunt is over.  We help get you on elk right away to helo your success rate.  

Terrian:

The elevation is anywhere from 7,000 to 9,000 feet depending on the camp.  There is dark timber with aspen trees, open fields and meadows, creeks and several ponds and lakes.  This is a beautiful area to spend a week and hunt.

What is Included:

Once you kill an elk you then call us from your cell phone and we come and  pack your elk out.  You get the elk back to camp or to the horse trail and we will get it from there.  There are pack frames in camp.  In camp there will be one sleep tent and one cook tent.  Included in the camps are sleep cots, tables, chairs, stoves, axe, chainsaw, propane, all cooking supplies and more.  

Not Included:

You buy the hunting license from the state of Colorado.  You bring and cook your own food.  You bring game bags for packing out your meat.  We will send you a list of recommended hunting gear once you book the hunt.  Tips for your wranglers are appreciated.
